Barry Beach, the man who has spent more than 30 years in prison for a murder he says he didn’t commit, and spent 18 months a free man before being returned to prison, was expected to walk out of Montana State Prison in Deerlodge for good today at noon. (I’m currently driving to Deerlodge and won’t be able to update this story until after noon).

More details on suspended MCDC Doc

Montana Public Radio news director Eric Whitney interviewed me at length Tuesday about my recent report on the suspended state doctor accused of illegal drug use. Last week the Montana Board of Medical Examiners suspended the medical license of Dr. Mark Jay Catalanello for the second time after he allegedly violated the terms of a chemical dependency treatment contract.

Judge orders preservation of Cebull email file

California District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers on Wednesday ordered the investigative file containing the emails that cost disgraced Chief Montana U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull his job must be preserved until 2019. Last November four plaintiffs – Four Directions, Indian People’s Action, Sara Plains Feather, and Clifford Bird In Ground – filed a petition in California District Court asking the judge to order the Judicial Conference of the United States and Cathy Catterson, the executive of the 9th U.S. Circuit of Appeals, to preserve the email file.
